58 MWe Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant Conceptual Design
McLellan was engaged to provide engineering services to Scottish and Southern Energy plc for the conceptual design of the CHP plant and site interface services. The preferred CHP plant configuration comprised a dual fuel gas turbine, a supplementary and auxiliary fired waste heat recovery boiler and an extraction-condensing steam turbine.
Design, Specification and Project Management of CCGT Power Plant
Pfizer Limited have been constantly reviewing the optimum means of supplying the utility services to their new developments where McLellan prepared design specification for the cogeneration systems, based on the use of gas turbines together with the integration of the plant into the existing system of utility services. The project involved dual fuel gas turbines, screw compressors and high pressure water tube waste heat boilers fitted with supplementary and auxiliary fired dual fuel burners.
Engineering Support during Front-End Engineering Design
Helius Energy requested McLellan to provide engineering support services such as review of bids, review of preliminary contract, monitoring of design and specifications, assistance in developing comprehensive fuel trials programme, assistance with the preparation of the conditions of contract, implementation of works and operation and maintenance contract for the plant.
Technical Expert’s Assessment of 65 MWe Biomass Power Generation
McLellan conducted a technical expert’s assessment of the proposed 65 MWe biomass power station and the generic design for a 5 MWe biomass power station for Helius Energy Plc.
Concept Design to Commissioning of 9.8 MWe Biomass Power Station
McLellan was engaged by EPRL from concept to commissioning of the 9.8 MWe Biomass Power Station at Westfield in Fife. The project used bubbling fluidised bed technology burning chicken litter to raise steam for the single steam turbine. McLellan undertook the duties of The Engineer under MF/1 through erection and commissioning.
Landfill Gas Power Generation
For over 15 years McLellan has assisted Shanks and McEwan, later Shanks Waste Services and now WRG and Infinis to develop and install Landfill Gas Power Generation plant at sites throughout Great Britain. Plants range in size from 500 KWe containerised packages to multiple engine power stations of up to 15 MWe. McLellan have also assisted a developer with a 15 MWe Landfill Gas Power plant in Athens.
Wind Power Generation Feasibility Study
McLellan undertook a feasibility study for the government of Falkland Island to explore wind power generation and high voltage interconnection system. The study concluded that use of wind turbines in units of 300-600 KWe and total installed capacity of up to 1,800 KWe together with power smoothing UPS systems would make a beneficial contribution to the Port Stanley grid system.
Reciprocating Engine Power Plant
Mayday Hospital Croydon engaged McLellan for the study and total specification of the electrical works necessary to convert an existing 850 KVA diesel generator set to be suitable for standby duty and to operate continuously in parallel with the public electricity supply. At the same time the engine was modified and the heat rejected by the engine used in a combined heat and power configuration. The second stage considered the installation of a new purpose designed 1000 KVA reciprocating engine CHP unit.
